You are listening to:DRAIN THE SWAMP

By Ima Nkanta

A swamp is a portion of a land flooded with water. But water in the swamp is often stagnant. This makes the swamp area marshy, muddy with fouling odour. Swamp does not have fresh water because it is stagnant. The present of large body of stagnant water in the swamp provides comfort for reptiles, worms and other creeping animals to fest.  Although they may other economically useful trees in the swamp, to make good use of them, the swamp has to be drained out. One of the ways of achieving this is opening ditches for the stagnant water to drain out. And once this is achieved, the animals that had made it their abode will be loose their lives; the area will become safer with fresher water and air for healthy living.

You won't believe that there are swamps in humans. As swamps harbour those physical repulsive creatures, so do humans. One of the signs that there is a swamp around your life is stagnancy. Once you are not making the kind of progress you ever desired, know that it's time for you to get up and drain out the swamp in your life. How sound is your spiritual life? Are you really enjoying a victorious living? The soundness of your spiritual life must of necessity reflect in the kind of progress you are making towards the attainment of your goals. Paul said to the Gaius: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth, 3John. 1:2. This man was doing fine spiritually, but was lagging behind in material and physical wellbeing.

A great number of us lag behind spiritually; resulting in stagnancy in material and physical wellbeing. The swamp must be drenched to empty the stagnant water, kill the amphibians in our lives in order to allow fresh water to flow in. Fresh water represents the God's Word and the Spirit; there is no way this will happen in a swamp. If you are stagnant spiritually, your knowledge of God's word will be very limited. When you read the Bible, it will become boring, you won't even understand it. You need to drain out the swamp. Physically, you may be attractive, but repulsive in the spiritual – scaring good things away from you.

A typical spiritual swamp is pictured in the following scriptures: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murder, drunkenness, revelling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19-21

Anyone whose life is filled with the above cannot enjoy healthy environment; will experience spasms in both material and physical well-being. Wisdom teaches that it's time to drench the swamp of these elements in order to move ahead with the kind of life God had designed us to be. Although you may be having some forms of progress, but how well it is should be the question to answer.

There are some Christians who don't care about draining their swamps so long as they still hear what they claim to be the Spirit speaking, The Holy Spirit does not dwell in a swamp, because He is holy.  But He can point you to the swamp in your life so you can drain it out with the help of God's Word which is the sword of the Spirit. You need His help, so stop making excuses.

It is only when the ditches are created that the smelling stagnant water can drain out for new fresh water of God's Word and the Spirit of God to dwell in. How do you create ditches? First, repent of the above works of the flesh, ask for God's help to desire and understand His Word. Take you spiritual tool of prayer and fight out the dwellers of the swamp. Sometimes, they might be stubborn, but with persistence, you will drain your life of unwanted elements. Remember Jesus Word to the accused in John 8:10b Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
